The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music…

Alta recently experienced the “spirit” of this theme song from the well-known movie, when we spent a few days in the mountains behind the Piketberg. The area is a nature reserve, and the continuous song of birds, frogs and beetles filled the air. Wind blowing through the trees added to the chorus. Of course, it was the perfect time of the year to see the wild flowers, mainly consisting of fynbos and proteas. Tiny blooms were scattered all over and one needed to bend low down to the ground to appreciate their beauty.

Being so high up, we often found ourselves above the clouds or mist. When the weather cleared, we were able to see from Langebaan to Dwarskersbos on the West Coast and counted all the fishing boats in St Helena Bay, some 40km away.. The view toward the Cedarberg and Piketberg Mountains is breathtaking. The sunsets added to the beauty of the surroundings. Accommodation consists of wooden cabins with hot water and showers.

We enjoyed great fellowship together with friends, Peter and Stella Smuts. Many hours were spent discussing all aspects of the Kingdom of God and sharing each other’s discoveries on the subject. At times it felt as if we were just one metre below the Heavens and experiencing Father God’s presence which seemed so tangible.

Thanks to Anne and Blain for their hospitality and allowing us to watch the rugby in the comfort of their lounge! We appreciate the work they are doing to conserve this part of God’s creation.

Janus and Janey - Braai

Janus and Janey de Klerk have been close friends of ours for many years.
since they were part of our congregation, where Janus was the worship leader and Janey was involved with the childrens' ministry.

They live and work overseas now and recently they returned to South Africa for a social visit. We thought a "lekker braai" (barbeque) with old friends was a good idea. The braai was a success and all involved traded stories and exchanged news.

It was wonderful to hear how God is working through Janus and Janey. What a blessing to see that He is using them in a mighty way to extend His Kingdom.

A Blessing from God

Recently, some friends of ours provided our Landy with a full set of new tyres. This was a remarkable answer to prayer as Alta and I had been asking the Lord to make provision for us to purchase new tyres. These friends were led by the Lord to provide in our need, without their knowing of our prayer request.

Warmwaterberg Spa

Alta and I were recently blessed by friends who invited us to spend a weekend with them, at the Warmwaterberg Spa near Barrydale in the Western Cape. The Spa is set in the mountains and has a few warm mineral-water pools. The day time temperatures were mild with clear weather but the nights were very cold, and so sleeping in tents was quite an experience! We would like to thank Chris and Lourene Laubscher for their hospitality and love.

Johan & Alta

About Johan Cronjé…….

Johan was born on the 26 April 1952 at the Karel Bremer Hospital in Bellville, Western Province.

He started his school career at Goodwood Pre-Primary, but when he was in Standard 2 (Grade 4), his father was transferred to Johannesburg and he greeted his beloved Cape.

Johan completed his primary career at Hugenoot Primary School in Mayfair-West, Johannesburg (as God would have it, this was the same school Alta attended!)

He matriculated from D.F. Malan High School in Crosby, Johannesburg.

After high school, Johan completed his basic Air Force Training in Pretoria and was transferred to the Air Force Base in Pietersburg, where he packed parachutes.

It was in 1970, during his basic training, that the Lord called Johan into the Ministry.

Johan worked at Standard Bank in the shares department. During the same year he also worked as a Reconciliation Clerk at the Bank of Johannesburg, before he went on to study Theology at the A.F.M. Theological College in Auckland Park, Johannesburg.

About Alta Cronjé (maiden name Brits)…….

Alta was born on 11 September 1955 on Leeubos, a farm in the Leeudoringstad district (North West Province).

When she was 5 years old, her family moved to Johannesburg.

Alta started her school career at Hugenoot Primary School in Mayfair-West (sounds familiar??). She then completed her high school career at three different schools. Standards 6 and 7 (Grades 8 and 9) at the Helpmekaar Girls High School, Standard 8 (Grade 10) at Parktown Commercial High and finally Standards 9 and 10 (Grades 11 and 12) at Voortrekkerhoogte High School in Pretoria.

After matriculating, Alta worked at the Wheat Board.

How they met Jesus………

Johan accepted the Lord a few times during his childhood, but made a serious commitment during his military training, when he was 18 years old. He was baptized during 1970 at the age of 19.

Alta accepted Jesus during a church conference at Maranatha Park, at the age of 8. She was baptized on 01 October 1967, at the age of 12.

Love…..

Johan and Alta met at Pinksteroord Sunday School in Brixton, Johannesburg, but they only truly noticed each other as teenagers. They were married in Edenvale on 07 June 1975. Johan was 23 and Alta 19.

Out of this joyful union, three children were born…..

Jean-Pierre was born on 13 July 1979. He is married to Genevieve and works as a Project Manager in Stilfontein, North West Province. He is a man of integrity with a quiet nature. Once he is your friend, he sticks by you through thick and thin. He values advice from his parents.

Tanya was born on 20 December 1980. She was married to Lukas Korff for 5 years before she passed away on 14 November 2006, after a long illness, at the age of 26.

Feelings about Tanya’s death……

Johan: I do not think I will get over our loss of Tanya. I reached an agreement with the Lord that I will never ask Him WHY and I will not allow myself to get bitter about it. This, however, does not ease our incredible longing, which at times can be unbearable.

Alta: I have never gotten over it. It often feels that something inside me died with Tanya. I often ask myself if I will ever be able to recover from this experience.

De Wett was born on 05 May 1988. He is an adventurous extrovert with a very small heart. De Wett enjoys a good debate, even when he knows that he is hopelessly wrong! He has qualified himself in the Information Technology sector and is keen to become independent.

Other Children
Johan and Alta “adopted” Lukas (son-in-law) and his sister, Amanda, as their own. They are now part of the Cronjé family.
