The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Music…

Alta recently experienced the “spirit” of this theme song from the well-known movie, when we spent a few days in the mountains behind the Piketberg. The area is a nature reserve, and the continuous song of birds, frogs and beetles filled the air. Wind blowing through the trees added to the chorus. Of course, it was the perfect time of the year to see the wild flowers, mainly consisting of fynbos and proteas. Tiny blooms were scattered all over and one needed to bend low down to the ground to appreciate their beauty.

Being so high up, we often found ourselves above the clouds or mist. When the weather cleared, we were able to see from Langebaan to Dwarskersbos on the West Coast and counted all the fishing boats in St Helena Bay, some 40km away.. The view toward the Cedarberg and Piketberg Mountains is breathtaking. The sunsets added to the beauty of the surroundings. Accommodation consists of wooden cabins with hot water and showers.

We enjoyed great fellowship together with friends, Peter and Stella Smuts. Many hours were spent discussing all aspects of the Kingdom of God and sharing each other’s discoveries on the subject. At times it felt as if we were just one metre below the Heavens and experiencing Father God’s presence which seemed so tangible.

Thanks to Anne and Blain for their hospitality and allowing us to watch the rugby in the comfort of their lounge! We appreciate the work they are doing to conserve this part of God’s creation.
